Urban Innovation
This design delves into the multifaceted stories of immigrants, migrants, refugees, and various displaced groups, pivotal in today’s global narrative. With hyperurbanization and globalization driving internal and cross-border movements, people form new urban landscapes and communities, shaping informal economies and distinct cultural enclaves. The focus extends specifically to the Bay Area, highlighting its historical ties with Mexican sovereignty and the continuous presence of Chinese communities in San Francisco’s Chinatown and Mexico City’s Barrio Chino. Through travel to Mexico City and studying its diverse architectural and cultural layers, the course explores global connections and the responses to globalization, informed by Edouárd Glissant's "Poetics of Relation" and his concept of Mondialité.
