The proposed Art Museum in Weihai, Shandong, is an architectural homage to nature, designed to reflect the area's poetic landscapes—from the undulating slopes to the solid rocks and the star-filled night sky. The design process focused on creating a structure that resonates subtly with its surroundings, enhancing the natural beauty rather than overshadowing it. Positioned in a valley on a slope, the building is conceived as a shelter, sitting lightly on the land, allowing visitors to experience the intimate connection with the mountain and the night stars.

The architecture employs two overlapping sheets of paper as a metaphor for its form; at one diagonal, they touch lightly, while at the other, they separate, framing views of the natural environment. Round, offset holes in these sheets filter daylight delicately across the spaces. A tensile roof system supports this structure, ensuring it remains both visually light and structurally sound. This design provides a dual experience: a connection with the earth on the lower level and a tree-level perspective of the forest above, truly embracing the essence of the site.
